MVA

Working on a large painting for my final MVA

In my final semester for my Masters of Visual Arts I was inspired to do some painting which is a little strange considering I started out thinking I would be working in screenprinting and pastel drawing! As it turned out it was quite liberating working large, on paper because that was all I had and in acrylic paint, also because it was at hand. I was fortunate to have the use of the studios at Federation University where I studied as my own studio wasn’t large enough.

Inspirations

I was very taken by the paintings of Helen Frankenthaler. If you haven’t heard of her please look her up. Her work was large, beautiful and she thinned down her paint to create a wash. My work will never be anything like hers but I was emboldened to try something different to what I had done before.

My time studying was something I will cherish as it took me to places I never thought I would go. It was by no means easy but believe I needed to do it.

Well, my assessors believed I had achieved something good as I received a HD. I just hoped I would pass!
